These are thoughts I have been pondering for some time. The link below shows I am not the only one.
I am fascinated by language;
If you are a business person and you seek to lead change, you are a change agent or an entrepreneur. We are taught to respect this.
If you are in politics and you seek to lead change, you are a leader. We are taught to respect these people to.
If you seek to lead social or environmental change, you are an activist. Which is not seen so positively. Why? After all, Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Jane Goodall are all positive social or environmental change leaders.
What do we call people who deliberately destroy? Those who seek to make: education and health care less accessible; who encourage those who pollute and despoil our water, soil and destroy our forests; who undermine human rights and so forth. As far as I can tell, there is no word for this.
Words such as, dictator and bully are synonyms for leader but that is not what I mean. My best answer is these leaders are “evil”. Another thought I had, was that the vandals began the collapse of the Roman Civilization. People who senselessly destroy are vandals. Maybe that is the word I am looking for. Leaders who lead change for worst are vandals.
Clearly I am feeling discouraged this week. Far too many of our current political leaders around the world are vandals.
But building a world that will be sustainable and beautiful is my challenge and I will continue working to achieve that.
