Earth from space

I am of the generation who watched the moon landings as they happened. A childhood that included star trek and Thunderbirds. An exciting and positive time to love science. Of course, later on we had DDT and other unforseen consequences but for a time science was a simple positive force.

It is more complicated now. Never the less, my view is that science and technology will be important moving us forward. What is more, the arts will be important too.

For me the view of the Earth from space is central: that’s a scientific and technological achievement, and the images expand the mind. Our artists, poets and song writers have taken the Earth’s beauty onward.

The web link is a video on astronauts thoughts on their experience. It is the “Overview effect” and there is so much beauty.
