This is a passionate piece of advocacy for the links between science and arts. The author Robert Root-Bernstein himself crosses the arts/science boundary, he has a deep understanding; his conclusion is that at a pre-verbal level the arts and science draw from the same set to skills; skills such as: visualization, analogy, three dimensional spacial reasoning are used by artists and scientists; and that the creative urge is fundamentally the same.
Please read this; it is good, helpful. Just relax about the tone; I have read Robert’s papers and they are usually even toned. Some of the comments, below, are critical. I think his tone is understandable; remember, both the arts and sciences are under attack in the USA.
